So I just bought a MacBook Pro (I’m not very well versed in using Macs yet, so excuse me) and decided to install World of Warcraft.

For anyone who has this game, I’m sure you know what a ridiculous pain it is to install on a new computer; not only does the install take a while, but there are usually three or four patches waiting to be installed that take at least 45 minutes each. On top of it, I also had to install the expansion, which took forever. Anyway, I finally reach the last patch of the game and as it is about to finish, there is an error. It won’t give me the option to ‘re-install’ the patch, nor will WoW open when I click on the icon, in fact clicking on the icon only causes a little error folder to appear on the desktop.

Frustrated with this, I decide to just uninstall World of Warcraft all together and re-install it from scratch. I looked around the WoW folder and could not find an “uninstall” file anywhere… and I don’t know what Mac’s equivalent of “add/remove software” is, so I’m left with a broken install of a game I can’t figure out how to get rid of…

Macs don”t need an add/remove software since they don”t share parts with other software, that being said:

In order to remove World of Warcraft safely from your system, you will need to move your World of Warcraft folder found in Applications to the Trash. Next, please go to your Hard Drive/Users/Shared folder, and move the Blizzard folder to the Trash, and then empty it. Install World of Warcraft, then Burning Crusade, then download and install the patches.

Hope this help you out:

In order to remove World of Warcraft safely from your system, please do the following:

1. go to your Macintosh HD => Applications folder (or wherever you saved the game) and move your World of Warcraft to the Trash
2. go to your Macintosh HD => Users => Shared folder and move the Blizzard folder to the Trash
3. go to your Macintosh HD => Users => your account => Library => Preferences and delete any files associated with WOW:
(some files may not appear due to non-use)

– com.blizzard.downloader.plist
– com.blizzard.Downloader.prefs
– com.blizzard.errorreporter.plist
– com.blizzard.Installer.plist
– com.blizzard.launcher.plist
– com.blizzard.World of Warcraft.prefs
– com.blizzard.World of Warcraft.survey.prefs

4. empty Trash

To reinstall the game, please do the following (make sure to check your account type):

For Original WoW accounts:

5. Install from disc(s) or download the installer
– (Downloading will get you the 2.3.0 version which may save you some patching time, if your disc has an older version.)
6. patch to the latest version of the game

For Burning Crusade accounts:

5. Install World of Warcraft from disc(s) then right afterwards install the Burning Crusade from disc(s) or
download the Burning Crusade installer
– ( What is recommend is downloading the Burning Crusade Full Client Installer and patching it, since this
will install both the original World of Warcraft and Burning Crusade in one take and get you to version 2.3.0 to begin with and you will have less patches to download. )
6. patch to the latest version of the game

For Wrath of the Lich King accounts:

5. Install the Wrath of the Lich King from the DVD or downloaded installer, which will install the original World of Warcraft, Burning Crusade and the Wrath of the Lich King in one take.
6. patch to the latest version of the game

Good luck. Also, since you are asking about uninstalling the game from a PC:

In order to remove World of Warcraft safely from your system, you will need to go into your Control Panel and use Add/Remove Programs. To do this, first go to the Start/Windows button, click Control Panel, and then double click on Add or Remove Programs.

-For Windows XP, you will have the add/remove programs option.
-For Windows Vista, you will have an uninstall/remove option under the 'Programs' or 'Programs and Features' section.

If the game is not listed in your Add/Remove Programs, or you receive an error during the uninstallation process, then you will have to manually uninstall the game by deleting the application directory where the program was installed. The default location is 'C:Program FilesWorld of Warcraft'. On Vista, this folder may also have been moved to 'C:UsersPublicGamesWorld of Warcraft'.

Wrath Of The Lich King

You may also want to search your hard drive for any Warcraft related files and delete them, including your Temporary folders and the Blizzard Entertainment folder from the common files folder. These folders will normally be located at:

C:WindowsTemp
C:Documents and Settings<YourName>Local SettingsTemp
(Delete all files in these folders that you are able to. Some files may be used by other programs and not able to be deleted.)

C:Program FilesWorld of Warcraft
(Select and Delete this folder if it exists)

(Select and Delete this folder if it exists)

C:UsersPublicGamesWorld of Warcraft
(Select and Delete this folder if it exists)

Once uninstalled, please also remove the remaining World of Warcraft game folder if this has not been done already. Once all previous files have been removed, re-run the installer from the installation CD or downloaded install files to reinstall the game.

*Note* If you have the Wrath of the Lich King DVD available, you can install using this DVD as it will contain the files for the full game installation, and this will reduce the number of patches needed after.

After the game is re-installed, please make sure to not reinstall any custom UIs. Connect to the game servers and download the latest patches to test the game.

Here is how to un/reinstall WoW, and yes, you can download WoW from Account Management.

Before you start the reinstall process, check your permissions and check your hard drive”s directory to make sure everything is in running order.

Please use the steps below to repair file permission settings on the hard drive you have installed World of Warcraft.
1.) Click on the Finder icon in the Dock
2.) Open the Applications folder
3.) Open the Utilities folder
4.) Double click on the Disk Utility application icon
5.) Select the hard drive the game is installed on
6.) Select the First Aid option
7.) Click on the Repair Disk Permissions button

Repair Directory Procedure:
1. (Re) start the computer
2. Right after the computer starts press Cmd (Apple) +s until you get a black screen with white type
3. Let go of the keys when this screen comes up
4. At the cursor please type the following: fsck -f -y and press return
5. Please be aware that some of the procedures will look like they are frozen, but are actually taking a long time i.e. checking hierarchy
6. If anything had to be repaired, repeat step 4
7. Once things are repaired type exit and press return
8. Computer will boot into Mac OS

I would also recommend running the Apple Hardware Test. You will need to have the original disc your computer was shipped with in the drive. Hold down 'D' while you”re booting. This is particular to Intel Macs. If you have a PPC Mac (G4 or G5), you”ll hold down 'Option' while booting to get into the Startup Manager where you can choose the Apple Hardware Test from the choices.

I”d recommend an extended test of all hardware, looping if that”s possible. That will let us know for sure if there are any hardware problems. If it reports any hardware issues, you”ll want to contact a local Apple Service Provider to address those.

In order to remove World of Warcraft safely from your system, you will need to:
1. Go to your Mac HD/Applications folder and move your World of Warcraft to the Trash
2. Go to your Mac HD/Users/Shared folder and move the Blizzard folder to the Trash
3. Go to your Mac HD/Users/your account/Library/Preferences and delete any files associated with WOW:
(You might not have all of these files since I”m running a lot more versions of WOW)
– com.blizzard.downloader.plist
– com.blizzard.Downloader.prefs
– com.blizzard.errorreporter.plist
– com.blizzard.Installer.plist
– com.blizzard.launcher.plist
– Com.blizzard.World of Warcraft.prefs
– com.blizzard.World of Warcraft.survey.prefs

4. Empty Trash
5. Install World of Warcraft, then download and install the patches.

**NOTE: If you have WotLK, you can just install that and skip WoW and several patches.**
